Bread of Life

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

48 I am that bread of life.

50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

*Just as the Lord gave the Israelites Manna from heaven in the wilderness, & it sustained them for 40 years, he gives us the true bread of life from heaven that we can partake of & have everlasting life.

The ‘bread’ is the ‘Word’ & the Word gives life. > John 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

*How do we eat of this bread? Jesus, came to earth as the living bread, the Word of God, the sacrifice of blood, to be offered on the cross for our sins. We eat the Word by obeying it, & apply the blood to our lives to cleanse us from sin, therefore receiving the promise of eternal life. We live by every word that God has spoken. (Mt.4:4) This is accomplished in us by obeying Acts 2:38 ... “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

*We receive His Word as truth...We are baptized in His name, applying His blood for forgiveness...We receive His spirit (the Holy Ghost) It is His spirit that makes the Word alive in us.

Eph 5:25...Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

*Christ was crucified for the church that we might be made clean by baptism in His name.
