1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, (serious, clear headed) be vigilant; (staying watchful and alert to danger or trouble) because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (consume / destroy)

*Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

9 Whom resist stedfast (constant, not changing) in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

*Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

*And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Satan attacks us by:

*Our Thoughts > We are only human, so thoughts are going to enter our mind – he tries to make them stick so that our thoughts become feelings, & actions, causing us to say & do things that are wrong.

*Our Emotions > He will convince us we feel hatred, jealousy, lust, greed etc. We must examine ourselves & determine what is true: example =If you would be quick to pray for, or help someone that was in dire need that you thought you hated... is that ‘hatred?’

*Actions > He tries to get us to act on our thoughts and feelings & uses others to act against us.

*Changing, or Wresting the Word > This brings deception.

*Showing Faults > He not only points out the faults of others so that we will lose confidence in our brothers & sisters, but also points out our faults to discourage us...this causes us to judge.

*Showing Good Things > He will point out other’s fame, fortune, prosperity, etc. to cause us to envy. He will point out that others are being blessed, used, befriended, exalted, having the best jobs, the nicest homes, cars etc. His goal is to make you feel less. He will try to convince you that you are less blessed, less loved, less prospered, less received, and less used by God.

He tries to give us: Wrong discernment

He appeals to the lust & desires of our flesh

How do we overcome?

Ja. 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (Submit = yield unto God’s power & fight against Satan)

Eph 4:27 Neither give place (opportunity, regard) to the devil.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
