Do We Need A Make-Over?

*Natural makeover - what do we change?

Appearance: makeup, hair, clothes, body > this can change a persons attitude

Surroundings: get rid of clutter, update our belongings > this can make life easier, more comfortable

Health: this can change how we feel > lose weight, exercise, eat healthy = (more energy, comfortable, feel better)

*Spiritual Makeover = instead of change we recapture --- love, faith, hope, confidence, joy , patience

*Do any of these need revived or restored?

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory

1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. (energetic / full of strength - effective)

Heb. 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; (are you confident in your walk?)

1 Jn. 5:4 this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (does your faith make you feel victorious?)

1 Peter 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (is your faith in operation?)

1 Thess. 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. (are you assured of your salvation?)

Heb. 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul... *Hope protects the mind, and secures the soul. (loss of hope causes us to stop praying because we lose expectation & this in turn, disconnects us from God) If you feel that your prayers are ineffective then Thank God for what you have & pray for others & be determined to keep hope alive!

Gal. 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

*Are you free? Do we feel the same love for one another or have past wounds caused us to put up walls or hardened our heart or allowed bitterness to creep in?) This will destroy our liberty! When we’ve been hurt or wronged by someone, it’s hard to show love...we want them to feel we do ...we don’t want them to get away with hurting us. But we have to ask ourselves >

1. Is this anger & hurt making me happy?

2. Is my unforgiving heart making me productive?

3. Which is more important? – How God feels about me right now, or how I feel about the person that hurt me. What is best for me? What will make me happy? Holding on to unforgiveness or having joy & peace with God?

*How do we recapture or restore what is lacking? We have to realize that the spiritual things are not gone – just dormant > we stopped using our faith, and power in God, and we’ve become lazy. It takes effort to make ourselves look our best & feel our best. It will take effort to renew our spiritual life. >

Phil 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (I use steady, significant effort)

Heb 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. *Remain unchanged, unmoved – remember you are free – don’t allow Satan to bind you.

Col. 1:23 God has reconciled us, to present us holy, and unblameable If we continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel…

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Jude 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost…

*Continually structuring your life on your faith (not your circumstances or your doubts, praying in the spirit. Have you stopped praying in the Holy Ghost? How often did you pray in the Holy Ghost before?...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith meekness, temperance (Gal 5:22-23)

Fruit is something ‘produced’ & is not harvested without effort.

1 Cor 12:7 ... the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

*The word of wisdom & knowledge, faith, healing, miracles discernment, divers tongues, interpretation of tongues are all given by the spirit. (1 Cor. 12:8-11) Have we become satisfied without these working in our lives? Are we too relaxed in our worship & our service to God?

*We can’t live by what sustains the flesh – but by what keeps the soul.
