Holiness, A Way of Life

Updated: Jun 17

He. 12:14 Follow peace with

all men, and holiness,

without which, no man

shall see the Lord.

Holiness = condition of being holy, blameless, without fault (In God's eyes being holy means living a righteous life)

*Pursue harmony with everyone & live obediently & righteously, according to Word of God.

I Pe. 1:16 .... Be ye holy; for I am holy

*The scriptures wouldn't say, "be ye holy" if it couldn't be accomplished. God has given us His word to teach us all things pertaining to hoiiness, & He has given us His spirit to lead & guide us. When we are tempted to behave unholy, His spirit gently reproves us, but it's up to us to listen to His reproof.

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Rom. 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

*To conform is to become similar, in form or character - To be transformed is to be different from. We are not supposed to look, talk or act like the world. We are required to be example to the world by shining the light of His gospel. (Mt. 5:16 ...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.)

Ro. 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, (sincerely ,seriously) according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith

2 Cor. 7:1 ...let us cleanse ourselves from all filtheness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

*Our holiness is not complete until we are free from all acts of unrighteousness, and we cannot simply pray sinful acts away; we must make changes in our lives. Vices, bad habits, immoral behaviour, etc. are all things that we have to crucify in our lives >

Gal 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;

Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God

Matt 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Mt. 23:5“..all their works they do to be seen of men;.”.

*Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites because they didn't live what they taught >

(Mt. 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!...)

Rom 10:1-3

1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God

*Here Paul is talking about salvation, and how Israel would not receive the righteousness of God, meaning his doctrine > the doctrine of Christ. Instead they hold to traditions of men, making an outward show of righteousness, but refusing to obey the word brought to them by way of Christ in the flesh. People still do this today - they wrest the scriptures,establishing their own doctrine, when clearly there is but > One Lord, one faith, one baptism. Eph. 4:5

Eph 4:24-32

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. *Something that is new is no longer like it once was. Our new self is reborn to be righteous & holy. *We have to consciously decide to live a holy life >

Luke 9:23... If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. *Our cross is our flesh...we have control over our flesh & we must keep it under subjection daily in order to please God.

Eph. 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Eph. 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

[Col 3:5 Mortify (control) therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: / Col 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him]

Eph. 4:27 Neither give place to the devil. *We must not give Satan any regard, or way to tempt, or deceive us

Eph. 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Eph. 4:29 Let no corrupt (dishonest) communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Eph. 5:1 Be ye therefore followers (disciples) of God, as dear children;

*We can only follow God if we walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh, for if we seek to please the flesh, we will obey the lust of the flesh and not the law of the Spirit > [Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.]

I Jn 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, (made known) and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
