Presence

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Presence: (existence in place)

Mark 4:1 And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

2 And he taught them many things by parables...

34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

*He continues to teach by ‘demonstrating’ a parable...

Mark 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

*Even though the Master of the sea was in the ship, there was still a storm. Sometimes we’re in the middle of a storm & the waves of the world come against us so strong, we feel like we’re sinking! Situations & circumstances cause us to experience fear, doubt, sickness, affliction, hatred or grief.

> Important facts in these scriptures that we can draw from: The WORD was in the ship (in the trouble) with them. The WORD had already been spoken = “Let us pass over unto the other side.”

They had the ‘power of the WORD’ with them in this storm. They had the PROMISE that they would get to the other side, but, they didn’t have the faith or confidence because Jesus wasn’t in their presence. They hadn’t learned to take Jesus entirely at His word! That’s why he asked, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? He could have phrased it differently like, “I’m here with you & I said let’s pass over.”

If we have the Word in our heart, & we are filled with His Spirit, we have the ability to stir the presence of Jesus.

We must have Jesus in our presence if we want to be saved from the storms – from the waves that will beat us down & take our spiritual strength & our faith & trust! If He’s not in our presence, we’d better have the means to wake Him up! By that, I mean a close, personal relationship with him like the disciples had.
