*Pharaoh is out to kill Moses so he has fled from him & is dwelling in the land of Midian (Ex. 2:15)
Ex 2:21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
*Moses is living a good safe life...he has a wife, a job, no threats
Ex 3:1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush...
7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
*Moses was living the life, but God interrupted that! We all have seasons in our lives. Sometimes, God asks things of us or takes us through things that we don’t understand or we don’t want.
Ex. 3:17 “...I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt.....unto a land flowing with milk and honey.”
*There’s no mention of a wilderness or desert between Egypt & Promised Land! It’s out of Egypt to the Promised Land. God didn’t tell them about the process in between. He didn’t let them know that they had to go through a learning, trusting process. ^He didn’t tell them about the shortcut because the shortcut wouldn’t give enough time to get ‘Egypt’ out of them. They were out of Egypt, but Egypt wasn’t totally out of them. We know this because they say things like, “We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:” Num 11:5
^Ex 13:17 ...when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea:
*They had been slaves for years, not trained in anything but manual labor - they weren’t soldiers - warriors. They hadn’t had time to learn trust - all they knew was to do what they were told or they would suffer. now, they had a taste of freedom but they didn’t know how to handle it. At the first sign of adversity, they would turn back to their old way of life.
We want to come out of Egypt, straight into glory! We don’t want to follow a procedure to get there.
If we knew what we would face after receiving Christ, we might have said no to His drawing. But, after we fall in love with Him, there’s no turning back!
You may have a calling in your life & you’re ready to pursue it, but it might not be time yet. You may not have journeyed through enough of the process yet - you may not be equipped with all you need yet - you may not have experienced enough of life yet. You might have to spend some time on the back of the mountain observing the burning bush & listening to the voice of God before God sends you out. You might be looking for open doors, but he’ll close doors that you’re not ready to go thru.
*The people said, In Egypt, we sat by the fleshpots & ate bread to the full - you’ve brought us out here to die of hunger.
The Lord answered, “I will rain bread from heaven.”
Ex 16:14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: (what is it) for they wist not what it was. *They asked for bread & they got this... they had to gather it (the right way) they had to grind it to make meal & cook it before they could eat it. Some answers come swift & easy others take time & our obedience & patience.
You might be struggling with something, empty, in need - you ask God for an answer & when it comes, you’re like, “what is this?” You don’t get the answer you expected so you think that God didn’t hear - didn’t move for you. Just because God doesn’t answer your way doesn’t mean He’s not working.
Ps 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Don't give up! This might be your season!
Jn. 5: 2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
*This wan't this man's first attempt at getting in the pool! How many times had he been there before, trying to get in the pool, & always, another stepped in before him? He kept making the effort, not knowing the outcome. This might have been the day that he was on the verge of giving up altogether. This day however, the creator of the pool, the power IN the pool, would come to him!
