Spiritually Minded

Updated: 21 hours ago

Spiritual - of the spirit, not the carnal

Minded - having a specified kind of mind

*If we have the Holy Ghost we have a portion of God’s Spirit = love & power

Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

*Think on things that are genuine, authentic & sound, things that are uncorrupted . Think on things that are worthy of praise & not troubling things that will keep you in peace.

Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Heb 11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

*mindful = having in mind, attentive

opportunity = probability, favorable circumstances

*If they had pondered on the country they left, especially in hard times, they may have considered returning... this would have been unbelief. Our temptations are linked to our thoughts, what we think about is what will tempt us – if we don't think about it, it never becomes an option. Abrahams thoughts were toward the promise of God. >

Rom 4:19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:

*He didn't allow his thoughts to dwell on the fact that he was old, instead he considered what God said.

Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (thinks on & gives attention to the spirit)

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

(carnal = of the 5 senses / spiritual = of the Word of God)

Jn. 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; (gives life) the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

*Our thoughts dominate us...if we keep the Word in our mind; we are led of the spirit.

Heb 10:16 I will put my laws into their hearts and in their minds will I write them.

* Why are children likely to have nightmares after watching a scary movie? That's what's been placed in their mind, & they've felt emotions from it.

* Why are children that have abusive parents more likely to become abusive adults? That's what they have seen, heard, & reacted to.

* People tend to take on the accent of a region after they've been there for awhile because they hear it repeatedly.

* You're apt to hum or sing lyrics to a song that you've heard played over & over at work, even if you don't like the song.

* Why do people watch porn? It causes an emotional reaction.

* Think about the ugly slang words, & bywords you hear today...Have you picked up some of them, not realizing how bad they sound?

(1 Pet. 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation)

*Unholy conversation should annoy & irritate us > (2 Pet. 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked)

*Just as we use our carnal senses, we must use our spiritual senses

2 Cor 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

*We have might thru the power of God’s spirit to pull down strongholds...To cast down imaginations that are contrary to the Word... & we have the ability to control our very thoughts. Our mind should have a guard at the door - the Holy Ghost

Eph. 6:17 ..take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.

*Our mind is protected by the assurance of our salvation & our weapon is the Word of God. The Word is made alive to us by the spirit of God.
