Teacher or Savior?

Luke 7:36-50 36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. *The scriptures don’t explain Why she brought ointment & anointed His feet but we can ascertain that she was broken & humbled before Him. Surely, she had heard of Him & His compassion & teachings & so she was drawn to Him in her brokenness. She brought something very precious (as alabaster & certain ointments were expensive) & blessed Him as best she knew how. Jesus saw her heart & forgave her sins. 39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. 40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. Master = Greek = (did-as'-kal-os) = an instructor = “teacher” 41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. 44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. 48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. 49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? 50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. *Simon saw Jesus as a teacher... The woman saw Him as Savior! Matt 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. (In my position, I have a word of authority over me that I must obey. I also have authority over soldiers & what I speak they must obey.) *He saw Jesus as a savior to his servant - as one having the authority (power) to heal his servant just by saying so! 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ►Jesus comes to his own country... Mark 6:2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. *They knew him as the boy that grew up alongside them & they couldn’t understand how he could do mighty works & they resented him so much that they hindered him from doing great things for them. How do you know him? Is he just words on paper that help you live a better life? Is he a blessing that you feel when you yield to his spirit? Does his power end with your salvation? ►Did the disciples forget who he was? Matt 8:23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! *How could they marvel at this? They’ve seen him do miracles & He is in the ship with them! Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. *God said “let there be light” (Gen 1:3) - By the word of the LORD were the heavens made (Ps 33:6) Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus come forth” & he came forth (Jn. 11:43) Jesus said, “go thy way, thy son liveth” & the Nobleman’s son was healed (Jn. 4:50) Jesus spoke the written word to satan & he had to leave. (Mt. 44-11) *Faith comes by hearing the word of God, so whether you think you have faith or not, speak the word to yourself. The more you hear it, the more you are reminded of what the word will do. Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom... *Allow the word of Christ to be alive in you - have its home in you, equipping you with knowledge & understanding.
