Temperance

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

*Temperance is a fruit of the Spirit.

[Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance]

*It is obtained by our fellowship with God & obedience to His will.

Paul says in 1 Cor. 9:27, “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection.”

*He knew the importance of self-control & discipline. We would like God to just take over & make us behave godly, but He gives us free choice in how we will conduct ourselves. We mustn’t be ruled by our emotions! Have you ever said or done something then soon after, regretted it?

Prov 25:28 says, “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”

*If we can’t control ourselves, we are defenseless against the enemy! If we will acknowledge our weaknesses, God will help us overcome them by prayer & our diligent effort to improve. If we will practice self-restraint by simply taking a moment to think before we speak or react, or make decisions, it will become a standard process in the way we conduct ourselves.
