Trust & Fear Not

1 Kings 17:8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. (Keep, bear the burden or weight) >

[Mt. 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.]

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof (from it) a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

^ 14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. [1 Sam. 3:1 The word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.]

^ 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

^ Lu. 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

Matt 11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

^ Lu. 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Lu. 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

*Doing what Elijah asked took trust & courage, as she only had enough to sustain her & her son for a short while & then she would be totally without & ultimately die. She was willing to believe the word that Elijah spoke, giving (forsaking) all she had. We know that we're supposed to trust God in all things, but sometimes, when you're in the middle of the situation, it's very hard. But, if we can't trust His word, how can we serve Him? How can we please Him? How can we "fight the fight, finish the course, & keep the faith?" [2. Tim. 4:7]

1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

*To be 'owned' by God is not to say that we have no will...it means God cares for us as you would care for your most prized possession. We are in His protection, & His will is that we are complete in Him, realizing that He paid the price for our salvation because He loves us so much!

*If we keep the word, the word will keep us ( the woman sustained Elijah, which represented the word, & the word sustained her)

Jn. 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Jn. 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

1 Tim 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

*If we want to be free from fear, we must walk in His ways & trust His word. The word may not always be easy to swallow, but it is after all, the Bread of Life!

John 6:50 ...this is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever...
